Along the Como–Ivrea axis, at the Olivetti factory where the first PC was born: the C.NEXT–AXOL partnership

Article published in ComoZero

AXOL Server is moving into C.NEXT Ivrea, where it will begin producing hyperconverged server clusters at the historic Officine ICO—a landmark in the history of computing. Beginning in 1959, the site produced the Olivetti ELEA 9003, the first high-performance transistor-based computer developed in Italy. Between 1965 and 1971, it also produced the Olivetti Programma P101, widely regarded as the world’s first personal computer.

SMEs embracing digitalization through Industry 4.0 and Transition 5.0

[…] The use of multiple interconnected computers is increasingly considered essential, even for SMEs, to ensure continuity in production and service delivery, supporting applications such as business management software, file sharing, network controllers, and more. Driven by Industry 4.0 and Transition 5.0, many Italian companies have digitalized—or are in the process of digitalizing—their production facilities by connecting machinery to business management systems. As a result, ensuring the continuous operation of corporate server infrastructure has become critical, minimizing the risk that a server failure could lead to production downtime or data loss.

Server clusters are becoming accessible to SMEs as well

Against the backdrop of this evolving production landscape—and a trend that is expected to continue in the coming years—it is particularly significant that server cluster technology is becoming increasingly accessible to SMEs, thanks in part to open-source virtualization platforms with no subscription fees, such as Proxmox.
