By implementing a cluster-based hyperconverged infrastructure, the Region has improved the efficiency, security and resilience of its IT systems.

The needs of the Aosta Valley public administration

The Region required a reliable and secure IT infrastructure to ensure the operational continuity of critical services, even in the event of incidents or disasters. It is therefore not merely a matter of efficiency: in many cases, it is an essential requirement for the protection of citizens and the continuity of essential public services. This is the case, for example, with the dissemination of regional alert bulletins that provide predictive warnings of potential risks linked to the weather and the local terrain. Predicting the risk of avalanches in the mountains or whether rain in a particular area could cause hydrogeological instability allows the local population to take the necessary precautions to protect themselves and enables tourists to postpone visits that might cause disruption.

Traditional server management had limitations in terms of scalability, efficiency and resilience.

The solution and the results achieved

The Aosta Valley Region has adopted a server virtualization solution, implementing a cluster-based hyperconverged infrastructure. This architecture enables centralized management of IT resources, improving the system’s scalability and resilience. The project delivered several key benefits:

scalability: the hyperconverged infrastructure allows for easy expansion to meet the Region’s future needs;

business continuity: critical services, such as weather and hazard warnings, are now guaranteed even in the event of incidents or disasters;

improved efficiency: virtualization has enabled more efficient management of IT resources, reducing downtime;

lower costs: the optimization of resources has led to a reduction in operating and maintenance costs.

The testimony

“We began the migration and everything went so smoothly that at a certain point we decided to replace other applications and core services as well, moving them to a system that clearly performed better,” explained Saudin, managing partner of Ecometer. The migration to the Proxmox clusters was completed in early January: “We were very pleased with the support we received from AXOL Server, so much so that we decided to set up a more structured support package over time, including remote services, consulting, updates and more. We’ve gone from having a single server with at most one copy to cluster systems which, in the event of a server failure or partial failure, automatically restart the virtual machines on other available servers, helping ensure service continuity.”

The interview with the Regional Government

The interview, published in Agenda Digitale, provides a detailed account of AXOL Server’s high-availability hyperconverged server cluster infrastructure, which has been adopted by the Aosta Valley Region to ensure the operational continuity of critical services even in the event of incidents or disasters.

AXOL Server is registered on Place-VDA, MePA, and Sintel

The Aosta Valley Autonomous Region has embarked on an ambitious project to modernize its IT infrastructure, focusing on server virtualization to ensure the operational continuity of critical public administration services.
